Main crops grown are - Barley, Buckwheat and Wheat, Green Peas, Vegetables, Potatoes, apples, etc.. Samar is also one of the rice growing gewogs in the dzongkhag ( Dorithasa village, which is the farthest village located three days walk from the nearest road head is the only rice growing village in the gewog)
During winter, the people of this Gewog move to Samtse Dzongkhag with their cattle for about seven months.
Samar is the third largest gewog in the Ha dzongkhag
