Paddy Cultivation Trail in Haa
The paddy cultivation for Haa Dzongkhag was directed by the Hon’ble Lyonpo, MoAF during his visit to Haa Dzongkhag on 23.01.2016. Subsequently, the Dzongkhag Administration initiated the cultivation the cultivation in Balamna, Samar Gewog. The paddy seedlings were transplanted in about 0.70 acres during May 2016. However, the crops did not yield good results. Rice Specialist who visited the site suggested varietal choice and early planting for better result.
This year, the transplanting was done early, during April 2017 with seedlings raised in green house at the farmers homestead. Like the first year, the ARDC – Yusipang continuously provided the technical assistance. Compared to last season, the paddy crops are much taller and healthy this year.
As a part of the on-going technical support, monitoring and evaluating process, the Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector initiated the weeding, water management and fertilizer application activity on 13th July 2017. The household members participated in the activity as hands-on-training on high altitude paddy ecosystem. Timely crop management is crucial for good crop production.
